The Pampered Pups project run by Personal Creations asked me to write about our cute Pug Brisket, so here it is!
If you haven't been formally introduced to our little ham, read this and then come back here.
This is one of my absolute favorite stories about our little funny Pug, and I think you'll get a laugh out of it. Enjoy!
It was Christmas day, and we were in New Jersey celebrating the holiday with John's (my husband's) family...
To set the scene for you, we LOVE Christmas! It's when we are catching up with family that we don't get to see the rest of the year, we are celebrating, getting and giving presents, seeing friends, decorating, watching Christmas movies, building fires, happy, happy!
Unfortunately this particular year...
John woke up with a stomach bug and he couldn't be too far from the bathroom for very long. I felt so bad for him! He was feeling icky on Christmas morning while opening presents, and he had to stay home all day missing our usual tradition of seeing his extended family on Staten Island (which is always a hoot and so much fun). Poor guy.
But before you start feeling too bad for John, Brisket, the cute Pug, comes to the rescue!
First, if you're a dog owner and specifically a Pug parent, then you understand what it's like to have a pet that literally shadows you every. where. you. go.
If I go to the bathroom, Brisket comes in and sits with me. If I go downstairs to do the laundry, Brisket accompanies me and makes her way into the dirty laundry bag while I'm pulling stuff out (photo on the left). If I take a shower, she tries to get in with me! Dogs are loyal companions, and Pugs take their "duties" to a whole new level.
That said, Brisket didn't leave John's side. If he was on the couch resting, then she was next to him under the blanket snoring away. If he got up to get a drink of water, then she accompanied him to the kitchen. And of course, if he went to the bathroom to get sick, then Brisket was there to comfort him.
Now
Brisket is a smart little doggie. She definitely understands English.
We started to spell words out, so she wouldn't know what we were
saying...yeah, she picked up on that too. Clever cute Pug, but I
digress.
Anyway, being the intelligent 4-legged Stapleton that she is, Brisket decided to not only be by John's side but took it a step further. At one point John went to the bathroom to get sick, and Brisket felt she needed to bring something to help him. Sensing his distress, she went into my suitcase searching for something to comfort him. She stuffed my pajama pants in her mouth and brought them to John in the bathroom!
These pajama pants are Brisket's must-have in times of need. This brought a smile to John's face and after a few minutes, he was feeling better. Soon John, Brisket and the pajama pants were back on the couch watching How The Grinch Stole Christmas resting happily.
And that's the story of how Brisket saved Christmas.
If you ever run into Brisket, you may find her snuggled up in pajama pants...any pajama pants...they may even be yours.
